Molly

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Molly was rehomed to a lady in Colditz in May 2015, thanks to the recommendation of Dr. Hanicke from Colditz..... ——————————————————————————— My name is Molly, I was left at the animal shelter and have been waiting for a new family since February 2015. This is what my caregivers say about me: Molly has been back at the animal shelter again. She lived with her previous owners for about 5 years. Unfortunately, small problems were never addressed by means of a good dog training class, so now that there's going to be puppies, it is feared that Molly might behave badly and possibly harm the puppies. Her problems are actually not serious, she just had too much control in the old pack, in our view. Molly formed a close bond, especially with her owner and listened better to her. The partner had the problem that Molly becomes completely out of control and acts up whenever she sees another dog. With her owner it was halfway okay. Both were completely overwhelmed. Since she doesn't like being alone, she was often in a dog day care center, where there were no problems in the pack. Molly can do some tricks and stunts, is very well trained on a lead and obedient. If she starts falling into her old habits, a clear command is enough and she is immediately polite. I am convinced that a handler training would have quickly helped here, which would have been possible in five years, but somehow the problems were avoided. Too bad for Molly, now she is looking again. At the previous owner, Molly had a milk line removed, we will x-ray her again before handing her over, as her gait, especially her hips, appears a bit uneven. The results will then be added. Molly behaves well in the car, likes children, likes cats and other small animals, is still fit and agile and very attached. Learning to be alone must be relearned, which was unfortunately neglected. Ideally, Molly could live as a second dog with a male dog or in a multigenerational house, where she always has someone to talk to. That would make waiting for her family easier. She lives with a male dog here and enjoys being together, female dogs have not been tested yet. We can only partially confirm her pulling on the lead, if she isn't allowed to, she doesn't do it. Who wants to get to know Molly's gentle nature and give her a new forever home, which Molly really deserves? Perhaps even a beginner who wants to learn from Molly what she can do and take on the small construction sites together with Molly in a dog training class……. This animal was surrendered to the shelter. Walks well on a leash.

About Molly

What life with Molly looks like

Molly is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Molly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Molly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Molly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Molly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Molly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Molly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Molly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
