Amigo

Rottweiler · Male · Senior · 9 years

Rottweiler Puppy Born: 14.11.2016 Strangers: Suspicious, anxious around men Children: No Dogs: ? Female Dogs: ? Cats: No What he has experienced in his previous life, we unfortunately cannot say, only so much: His last family (or the teenage son) had likely chosen a Rottweiler online and realized within a few days that Amigo is too big for their house number. However, this family could not tell us anything about his previous life because he was probably bought in a rushed purchase without prior investigation. He was very shy and stressed at first and needed some time to build contact with the fosterers. Currently, he is gradually expanding his circle of friends. However, it seems that some men scare him terribly and he growls at them and avoids contact. Amigo finds it okay to take a cookie from strangers as long as they leave him alone and do not touch him. While it is possible to pet him after multiple approaches, he is more friendly with his fosterers, generally goes well on the leash, and even participates in short arguments with other male dogs at times. At the fence, he greets his neighbor buddies (both male dogs) kindly and politely. Amigo ignores bicycles and cars on the leash completely, as well as passing children. Since we do not know his past, we absolutely advise against placing him in a household with children. Whether he can live with other dogs/animals in a household is unknown, but we do not observe general incompatibility. His stress at the animal shelter has certainly decreased, but he still shows a kind of stress-saliva – which generally also shows: "Amigo has enough stress and excitement." We have also observed a "the Rottweiler has enough and needs his rest on the blanket" grumble a few times, so we again advise that children should not live with him! Since we cannot yet determine what kind of adult men trigger his growling and showing of teeth, future owners must take some time to get to know him gradually at the animal shelter before he can move in. For Amigo, we are looking for experienced owners and lovers of the great Rottweiler breed who have heard the deep rumble of a Rottweiler before and can also handle the small black and red thick-skull. He seeks reliable people who can give him security, be patient, consistent, and calm with him as they navigate the future together.

About Amigo

What life with Amigo looks like

Amigo is a large senior rottweiler dog waiting at Hedwig-Trampert-Tierheim Dillingen in Dillingen.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Amigo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Amigo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hedwig-Trampert-Tierheim Dillingen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Amigo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Amigo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hedwig-Trampert-Tierheim Dillingen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Amigo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Amigo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hedwig-Trampert-Tierheim Dillingen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Amigo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
