Amigo

Mixed Breed · Unknown

The approximately five-year-old, neutered sighthound mix male dog "Amigo" is a friendly and people-oriented dog who quickly wins over hearts with his open nature. He shows clinginess towards familiar people, enjoys attention and likes to be close to his humans without being intrusive. He usually meets new people in a friendly and interested manner. Overall, "Amigo" presents as a pleasant companion with a balanced character, but also brings some temperament and enthusiasm for movement, typical of a member of the sighthound type. "Amigo" gets along well with other dogs and, depending on his liking, plays happily or relaxes together with his fellow animals. A previously experienced only dog could certainly be a good addition for him, but is not a requirement. There are currently no confirmed insights into his behavior towards cats or other small animals. However, due to his genetic predisposition, it should be considered that he may have an instinctive prey drive typical of his breed. Therefore, responsible handling is recommended in areas with abundant wildlife and a secure environment, especially during the adjustment period. "Amigo" is appropriately active for his age and enjoys long walks, opportunities to run, and mental stimulation. As a sighthound mix, he likely has the typical combination of sporting motivation outdoors and calm behavior at home. Therefore, people who enjoy physical activity and at the same time understand the special characteristics of this dog group are ideal companions. A securely fenced garden would be nice, but not essential, provided sufficient exercise and mental stimulation can be guaranteed.

About Amigo

What life with Amigo looks like

Amigo is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. in Dormagen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Amigo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Amigo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Amigo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Amigo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Amigo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Amigo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Amigo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
