Nessi

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 11 years

Nessi has been in a foster home in Troisdorf since February 2021, and we are looking for a very special home for this sensitive little mouse, because she is also a very special female dog. Nessi has epilepsy, but it is well controlled with medication, so her seizures are rare. She has had a complete check-up by the veterinarian and was found to be healthy, except for her epilepsy. She spent five years of her life in a kennel at our partner animal shelter in Hungary, so she was not able to experience things that make up the normal daily life of a dog. Although she has made great progress in her foster home, she has gained trust in her humans, plays occasionally, and now even allows being petted, but she does not tolerate pressure or coercion. Due to her sensitivity, Nessi is not suitable for a life in a typical household. Stress affects her, and putting on a leash causes her to panic. Therefore, she currently lives exclusively in the house and garden of her foster family. For her new home, direct, as seamless an access as possible from the living area to the garden is essential. A quiet environment is ideal - small children would probably overwhelm her, while understanding teenagers or occasional young visitors would not be a problem for her. Nessi gets along completely peacefully with other female dogs, cats, and small animals. She can remain alone for several hours with them. Her new people should have patience and empathy, but above all: the willingness to love her just as she is. In 2023, her happiness seemed within reach when she got a place on a sanctuary. Unfortunately, this opportunity was ruined due to unexpected circumstances. But we do not give up hope that somewhere the right people are waiting for Nessi - people who understand, respect, and finally give her a permanent home. Contact: Michaela Simon Mail: As we are employed, we may get back to you only after some hours. It is best to contact the above-mentioned mediator first in writing (by email or WhatsApp) and ask for a call back (don't forget to mention your phone number if necessary). Please be patient!

About Nessi

What life with Nessi looks like

Nessi is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Glück für Pfoten e.V. in Dortmund.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nessi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nessi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Glück für Pfoten e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nessi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nessi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Glück für Pfoten e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nessi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nessi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Glück für Pfoten e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nessi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
