Adopt Amun

Male · Senior · 9 years

Ursprung: Hungary Amun is a beautiful, stately Central Asian Shepherd Dog – robustly built. In October 2020, he came to us as a seized dog together with his partner Grisa to our animal shelter in Hungary. Both were severely undernourished – but now Amun has developed into a magnificent, healthy male dog. At first reserved towards strangers, Amun shows himself to be a loyal, well-socialized friend after getting used to his surroundings. Once trust is built, he loves his caregivers. He already runs well on a leash and learns the dog ABC with enthusiasm – because he wants to explore the world with his people. Amun is no loner – at the animal shelter, he gets along well with other dogs, as long as they are not dominant. He lives alone in the kennel. We are looking for loving people with experience with herding dogs for Amun. He needs a home where daily, breed-appropriate stimulation, mental stimulation, and a safe, structured environment are available. A house with an enclosed garden in the countryside would be ideal. Amun has earned the right to find a home where he can finally arrive – loved and cared for. On August 11, 2025, a voluntary, Hungarian helper writes: "Amun came to the animal shelter in 2020 together with his companion. His companion has already found a home. Over the past five years, Amun has become one of the mentors' favorite dogs. He is exceptionally friendly, people-oriented, child-friendly, kind, lovable, and trusting. When you engage with him, take him for a walk, or groom his fur, he is the happiest and most content, and he shows great gratitude. These half-hours fill his heart because he has been waiting for his family for a long time. He accepts cuddles and affection without limit and at any time, and he needs them. On a leash, he runs beautifully, and every moment with him is a joy. He is of calm temperament, obedient, skilled, and clever." On April 3, 2026, a shelter worker writes: "Amun is looking for a home and has waited far too long. Amun has been waiting since 2020 for someone to notice him. He wants to be seen as the quiet and loyal companion who simply wishes for a chance. He dislikes other dogs and feels most comfortable as a lone dog. On a leash, he runs beautifully, and every shared walk with him is a joy. He is quiet and calm in nature, not intrusive, but rather gentle in his way of making contact. Amun is not a loud dog, he does not seek attention. He is the dog who quietly slips into your heart. After so many years of waiting, he deserves his own home and his own person more than ever, maybe exactly you." Unfortunately, Amun is neutered and therefore cannot enter Switzerland. Natalie Urben supports Amun with a sponsorship – merci beaucoup!! Also, a big thank you to Sabrina Fasel for taking on a sponsorship for Amun. Merci dear Cornelia Fischer for another sponsorship of Amun. Another sponsorship goes to Jörg Lübbe. Thank you very much!

About Amun

What life with Amun looks like

Amun is a senior dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Amun, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Amun?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Amun on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Amun if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Amun already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Amun isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Amun and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
