Amy

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 8 years

Amy came to us through the veterinary office because her previous living conditions were unfortunately not ideal. She generally appears open, friendly, and approachable toward people. With familiar individuals, Amy is especially affectionate and thoroughly enjoys any form of attention and closeness. Cuddles are simply a must for her. With other dogs, Amy gets along well—depending on her level of affinity. For her new home, however, we’d like to find her a spot as an only princess, where she can enjoy her humans’ undivided attention. When Amy first arrived with us, she had significant health issues. She walked very poorly, and her coat was also in poor condition. Thanks to loving care and attentive treatment, her overall health has since improved considerably. However, veterinary examinations revealed that she already suffers from osteoarthritis in her elbow joints. To keep her pain-free and enable her to move as comfortably as possible, she receives appropriate medication on an ongoing basis. Due to incidents involving her previous owner, Amy was initially required to wear a muzzle and be kept on a leash. After successfully passing a corresponding assessment at the animal shelter and demonstrating just how positively she has developed, this requirement could finally be lifted. Now we sincerely hope to find a loving and understanding home for Amy. She’s a truly adorable dog who, despite her past, has retained her friendly nature and will bring much joy to her people. We’re delighted that you’re interested in Amy. The best way to get involved is to send us an inquiry right away. Then you’ll become Amy’s sponsor. Of course, Amy would also appreciate individual monetary or material donations.

About Amy

What life with Amy looks like

Amy is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Karlsruhe in Karlsruhe.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Has arthritis in elbows requiring occasional pain medication. Subject to muzzle and leash requirements due to previous incidents with former owner.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Amy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Amy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Karlsruhe handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Amy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Amy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Karlsruhe will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Amy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Amy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Karlsruhe early rather than rehoming privately; they know Amy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
