Amy

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

November 2015 – Amy has now fulfilled all club requirements and successfully completed the behavioral assessment; she is now living as a second dog in her new home! Amy moved into her new home on a trial basis as a second dog on February 4, 2017. Until all club requirements for temporary care are met, we wish her a lot of success! ………………………………………………………………………………………………. I am female, will be spayed, microchipped, and was born in 2013. I am about 45 cm tall. I have been waiting for a new home since August 2016. This is what my caregivers say about me: Amy is a rescue dog from Brandenburg. There, she was reported by her owner after a fight with a rival, and as expected, the owner received instructions to eliminate Amy. Through searching for help at recognized animal protection associations, a quick contact was established with us to avoid unnecessary delays in the suffering of all involved, especially because Amy is a social dog, and we were able to take her in quickly. Upon arriving with us, Amy quickly became a popular walking companion, although her leash handling is lacking. She loves people of all sizes and ages and becomes very excited. Thanks to the previous owner, Amy had regular contact with other dogs, and she gets along well with dogs of all sizes and ages, except for exceptions. Prey drive is present, which, along with other issues, can still be worked on well with half a chicken, since Amy is extremely eager, you just need to press the right buttons. She knows basic commands and can become an absolute family dream with proper guidance. There is nothing about her that cannot be solved with consistent training. She loves work, movement, playing with fellow animals, and is not a lazy one with her wiry nearly 20 kg. Cuddles are also not missing. She has been living with an agile male dog for some time now. Amy can be led well past other dogs; in the animal shelter, she is not a dog that barks at every other fellow animal behind the fence. A life as a second dog would be ideal, although preferably with a male dog. Female dogs would need to be tested, as well as other animals that live in the household, requiring appropriate training and an adjustment period for the interested person. Ideally, children, if present, should already be somewhat older and more stable. A house with a garden would be ideal, but is not a requirement. As she is a list mix, we place Amy with special conditions; if there is serious interest, we would be happy to advise. Naturally, she enjoys every cuddle and also follows quiet times, except for minor weaknesses. She can be left alone, is an enthusiastic passenger, and is house-trained. A dog dream...we and the previous owner would be very happy if Amy finally has her own family again...Who would like to be woken up every day by our half chicken when morning arrives, it doesn't have to always be a rooster...The descriptions are impressions and recordings of the animal in our animal shelter and our foster homes. Each animal may develop differently in its new home.

About Amy

What life with Amy looks like

Amy is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Amy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Amy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Amy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Amy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Amy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Amy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Amy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
