Dakota

Husky · Female · Young · 3 years

Born: circa 2023/2024 Breed: Husky-mixed breed compatibility with others: Yes; Cats: Cannot be tested. Current location: Emergency Station Istanbul (Turkey) Dakota came from another emergency station that was closed due to very poor living conditions. Currently, she lives in a cramped space with far too many dogs in a small area. The dogs have no view outside. Only when they stand on their hind legs can they see a little. This is not an appropriate life and is extremely hard for the dogs. They receive no affection or daily walks. Dakota comes straight to the cage when approached and wants to get out. She gets along with other dogs, but it's clear how unhappy she is with the confinement. The dogs have no retreat. For Dakota, we are looking for people with a good understanding of dogs who can teach her in peace, not confine her, and give her time. She can be rehomed as a second dog without any problems.

About Dakota

What life with Dakota looks like

Dakota is a young adult husky dog waiting at Pföttchenretter mit Herz e.V. in Leichlingen.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dakota, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dakota?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pföttchenretter mit Herz e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dakota on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dakota if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pföttchenretter mit Herz e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dakota already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dakota isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pföttchenretter mit Herz e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dakota and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
