Hektor

Husky · Male · Adult · 5 years

During our July trip, we had the chance to briefly meet Hektor and take a few photos of him. He was friendly, attentive, and genuinely interested in us. At the same time, he didn't appear rushed or overexcited; rather, he seemed calm and balanced. Currently, Hektor goes for regular walks with several volunteer helpers from the animal shelter. According to the team, this arrangement works wonderfully, and it’s clear that he thoroughly enjoys these outings. However, since Hektor hasn’t been at the shelter for very long yet, and we’ve only just gotten a brief impression of him, we can’t share much more about him at this time. We also can’t yet make a reliable statement about how well he gets along with other dogs. Of course, if you’re seriously interested, we’d be happy to provide further information. What quickly became apparent during the warm temperatures in Hungary, though, is what really sets Hektor’s heart racing: water! As soon as he gets the chance, this handsome Husky is in his element. He’s a real water lover and would surely be thrilled to meet people who enjoy spending time outdoors in nature and sharing his enthusiasm for adventures together. Hektor is a typical Husky in his prime—active, curious, and ready for a fresh start. We’d love for him to find people who enjoy spending quality time with their dog and finally give him the home he’s been missing all along—people who can show him that he no longer needs to keep moving but can finally put down roots. Hektor has already been neutered. He tested positive for heartworm, and treatment was started in July. We’d be delighted to provide interested parties with detailed information on the current status of his therapy and answer any questions you might have about heartworm. Please take a moment to read through our website beforehand to learn more about our and everything related to “dogs.” We’ve prepared comprehensive informational materials covering all aspects of dog adoption. Please pay attention to the “Self-Declaration” field below and send us this form completed first. After that, your adoption counselor will happily contact you by phone. In principle, all our dogs travel with an EU pet passport and Traces documentation. They are fully vaccinated, freshly dewormed, treated with a spot-on against external parasites, tested for Giardia (and treated if necessary), and come with a blood test including organ values and tests for diseases prevalent in Hungary. Additionally, all dogs travel with a suitable safety harness and a GPS tracker—including a premium subscription valid for one year. Please click on the link “Self-Declaration” so that the PDF file opens. Depending on your browser, the file may open directly on your screen or require you to click again at the bottom of the screen after it has been downloaded. You can fill out the fields of the file without any additional software, then right-click inside the document and select the option “Save As.” Please choose a save location—for example, your computer’s “Desktop.” The default file name is “Selbstauskunft_Canifair_.” After the last underscore (“_”), please add your family name so that we can better associate the file with you. Be sure to enter the dog’s name in the very first field at the top. When you send an email to the adoption counselor listed in the ad, please attach the saved self-declaration. This allows us to get an initial impression right away and significantly simplifies and speeds up our first contact. Your data will not be shared with third parties and will only be used within the context of a dog inquiry or the requested adoption.

About Hektor

What life with Hektor looks like

Hektor is an adult husky dog waiting at Canifair e.V. in Kaarst.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hektor, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hektor?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Canifair e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hektor on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hektor if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Canifair e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Hektor already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hektor isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Canifair e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hektor and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
