Andreu

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Andreu is one of many, many Podencos currently residing at our partner animal shelter, Al Bayassa in Baeza. Although he has been living there under very modest conditions for quite some time now, he has retained his sunny and open-hearted nature. He shares his kennel with Lino and Lukas—also two male Podencos—and the arrangement works wonderfully. The three boys get along superbly, and there’s never any squabbling over resting spots, toys, or food. All three have adapted remarkably well to their sad situation. What’s truly remarkable about Podencos is that even in the most sorrowful circumstances, they never lose their little playful spirit. And this playful side of Andreu shines through every day when, for a brief moment each day during cleaning, the kennel door is opened. In the outdoor run, Andreu can really let his joy of life run free. He loves darting around, helping the staff with cleaning, sneaking a bite of a treat here and there, and especially adores toys! As you can easily see from his photos, he can spend hours occupied with all sorts of toys—especially Mister Spock has captured his heart. With his funny, cheerful demeanor, Andreu consistently brings smiles to the faces of the shelter staff and ensures a great mood! He’s an outgoing fellow, always up for a bit of fun, whether it’s with people or other dogs. Even when two members of the animal welfare association Europa—who were completely unfamiliar to him—visited the shelter, he greeted them like old friends, gratefully accepted their attention, and thoroughly enjoyed being petted. The highlight of the week is on Saturdays, when the police academy comes to the shelter; then, once a week, the dogs are allowed to go for a twenty-minute group walk. Andreu joins enthusiastically and encounters pedestrians, joggers, cyclists, and cars without any trouble. He gets along splendidly with his fellow dogs, whether they’re males or females. New situations? No problem for Andreu—he always remains open and friendly. Andreu would probably fit into many different kinds of family setups and integrate seamlessly into all sorts of dog-friendly lifestyles. Going for walks together, hiking, taking trips, enjoying cozy days indoors on the couch watching Netflix—whatever the weather may bring. We’re absolutely certain that, with an initial adjustment period and a bit of training, he’ll become a wonderful companion both in everyday life and on travels.

About Andreu

What life with Andreu looks like

Andreu is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Andreu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Andreu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Andreu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Andreu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Andreu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Andreu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Andreu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
