Adopt Zeus

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Zeus – the brave dog prince with a survival will worthy of the gods! Our Zeus did not have an easy past: found in a forest in Bucharest, in an area where people do not care about the well-being of animals and do not acknowledge their feelings. When found, it was immediately clear that he had been bound with a noose around his neck and had been struck on the head with an axe beforehand. When the perpetrator declared him dead, he stuffed Zeus into a sack and threw him into the forest. That Zeus is still alive today is probably due to his iron will to survive and the person who found him and brought him to a specialized animal clinic. Our brave little fellow took a month to recover from his injuries, after which our animal welfare workers took him in and brought Zeus to a loving foster home in Bucharest, where he now waits for his people. At his foster home, Zeus shows his best side and makes one thing clear: he wants to live! Even though Zeus did not have the best start in dog life, he shows a lot of joy and fighting spirit to finally find a family where he can simply be himself. He is a very affectionate and friendly male dog in his prime, eager to please his people. Although he had to make terrible experiences with people, he bonds quite quickly and enjoys the attention he gets at his foster home. Zeus turns out to be very intelligent and knows exactly how to charm the people around him, managing to catch a bit of a treat here and there – but who could resist those sugary puppy eyes? Due to the blow to his head, he has very rarely any uncontrolled eye movements (nystagmus) and puts his left hind leg a bit strangely, but according to the X-rays, he has a healthy spine. Zeus gets along super well with his fellow animals, whether male or female dogs, so it would certainly not be a problem if there is already an only dog in the family that Zeus can orient himself to and cuddle with, and with which our little superhero can explore the world. Since Zeus has gone through a lot, he needs people who exude a lot of calm and serenity and give him the time he needs to settle in his new home.

About Zeus

What life with Zeus looks like

Zeus is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zeus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zeus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zeus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zeus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zeus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zeus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zeus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
