Angelina

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 11 years

A friendly dog-grandma Angelina had a loving home for a long time. After her owner's death, she is now looking for a cozy retirement home. Nature has created a true one-of-a-kind here: she comes across like a wire-haired Labrador on crooked dachshund legs, our extremely cute senior Angelina! At a mere 30cm shoulder height, she has a sturdy 20 kilograms; hard to believe, but true. The very friendly grandma loves all bipeds hot and intimate and also gets along well with conspecifics. After her owner's death, she had to move to the animal shelter and is now looking for a nice retirement home from here. Angelina has several tumors on the neck and in the neck, which have now turned out to be benign, slowly growing lymphomas. The sweet grandma can live with this for several years without any problems. Basically, Angelina seems to be of robust nature; she mastered the recent castration without problems and was quickly on her feet again. We would like Omi Angelina so much that she soon packs her suitcase and moves into a cozy basket with loving people. If you have never had the opportunity to live with a senior dog, you should not miss this experience. The gray-bristled ones are of a very special kind; they bring a calmness and life wisdom with them that makes the togetherness with them a unique gift. Adopters always report that even older and old dogs, who have not known anything except the animal shelter and have never lived in a house, have found their way into the new everyday life without any problems; house training is often not an issue. Of course, the seniors are not as many years with us as most young dogs are. And that is a point that makes many people hesitate to take an older or even old dog into their home. From experience we can assure: even if you don't know how much time you will be given: it is worth every single day, every single hour of it. Are you thinking about giving our Angelina or another senior dog a happy life? But you're not sure yet? Then please contact us with your questions. Maybe you would also like to take a look at our chapter "Old but Gold - why an old dog?"? There you will find reports on living with a furry senior. If you would like to give Angelina a happy life, then please contact us. Please read the information on our homepage before contacting us about the placement process and around the topic of "dog". We have prepared detailed information materials for all areas. Please note the "self-disclosure" field below and send us this filled out first. Afterwards, Angelina's mediator will also be happy to call you. Like all our dogs, Angelina travels with an EU pet passport and Traces papers. She is then fully vaccinated, freshly dewormed, treated with a spot-on against ectoparasites, tested for Giardia and possibly freshly treated, with a blood test with organ values and tests for the diseases that occur in Hungary. In addition, all dogs travel with a suitable safety harness and with a GPS tracker including 1 year premium subscription. Click on the link "self-disclosure" so that the PDF file opens. Depending on the browser, the file opens directly on the screen or must be clicked again at the bottom of the screen after it has been downloaded. You can fill in the fields of the file without additional programs and then click with the right mouse button in the document and select the option "save as" or "save as". Please select the storage location, e.g. the "Desktop" of your computer. The file name "Selbstauskunft_Canifair_" is given. Please add your family name after the last "_" so that we can better assign the file. Please remember to enter the dog's name in the first field at the top. If you now send an email to the mediator mentioned in the ad, please attach the saved self-disclosure. This gives us a first impression and facilitates and accelerates the initial contact. Your data will not be passed on to third parties and will only be used in the context of a dog inquiry or the requested adoption.

About Angelina

What life with Angelina looks like

Angelina is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Canifair e.V. in Kaarst.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Angelina, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Angelina?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Canifair e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Angelina on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Angelina if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Canifair e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Angelina already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Angelina isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Canifair e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Angelina and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
