ANIELA

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 10 years

A ANIELA was found in the middle of nowhere, near a construction site that is far from inhabited areas. She had large mammary glands, so it was obvious she must have puppies. Volunteers took some time to find them, but finally managed to locate her 12 puppies, under rubble of stones. Somehow she managed to get in and feed them. It took some time for us to take the family to the shelter. The puppies were rescued first but the mother was very scared and ran away. After some time, the person who was feeding her managed to catch her and take her to the shelter. At the shelter, she became fearful again. No one could approach her. Now that some time has passed, she is gaining confidence - she comes to sniff and lick our hands and accepts cuddles, but still keeps her distance. Anyway, the progress she has made is remarkable and we believe she would once again be a happy dog if offered a home. She gets along well with other dogs. She will be delivered vaccinated, dewormed and spayed.

PT·Show original

No abrigo, ficou novamente medrosa.

About ANIELA

What life with ANIELA looks like

ANIELA is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at O Cantinho da Milu in Lisbon.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Requires patient owner due to fearful behavior from traumatic past

🇵🇹Adopting from Portugal

Portuguese rescues coordinate extensively with European rescue networks for cross-border placements, especially for galgos and podencos. Sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID are standard. Adoption fees typically cover the full vet workup.

Frequently asked

Adopting ANIELA, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about ANIELA?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. O Cantinho da Milu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw ANIELA on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt ANIELA if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — O Cantinho da Milu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is ANIELA already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if ANIELA isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with O Cantinho da Milu early rather than rehoming privately; they know ANIELA and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
