Anika

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

vaccinated, neutered, microchipped hen 57 cm, weight 24 kg, born August 2022 (approx.) The lively and charming Sweetie Anika fits every family that’s not just looking for a pet but a loyal friend with an open heart and boundless loveability. Anika came to us as a found bird at the animal shelter and quickly settled in, winning the hearts of volunteers and staff right away. Here’s what the staff have to say about her: Anika is the hen who turns an ordinary day into a small celebration. Her talent is to give and accept love. She finds a common language with every person, from a child to an adult, and her greatest joy is to be by your side. She can sit on her back to be hugged, hold her belly out for petting, or simply sit at your feet and observe the world. Anika is important to be with people. Sometimes she can loudly assert her claims on a walk, making it clear to other dogs: "This person belongs to me!" — as an expression of her wish to be unique and irreplaceable in your eyes. Anika makes the perfect companion on a cozy walk, running through the park, cooling off in the pond, or learning to greet passersby with interest. She loves to explore the world but always returns to you as her most important anchor. Her relationships with other dogs vary. She can be a playmate at the dog park or prefer proud solitude in your company and not want to interact with some. She shows a friendly curiosity towards cats. Anika is clever — for a treat and your praise, she’s ready to learn new things. She calmly lets herself be groomed. Curious to explore new places, whether a quiet park or a bustling city. Without fear, she steps into new places and rooms. Anika is a female bird who feels at home everywhere: she loves action and quietness alike, gets along with children and other animals, and is also a wonderful companion for older people. She finds her place in every home.

About Anika

What life with Anika looks like

Anika is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Russische Tiere in Not e.V. in Gladbeck.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Anika, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Anika?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Russische Tiere in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Anika on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Anika if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Russische Tiere in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Anika already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Anika isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Russische Tiere in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Anika and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
