Adopt Anja

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

ProfileAge: Born around November 2024. Gender: Female. Spayed: YesCharacter: Very friendly, open, very well-temperedSize: Approximately 55 cmOld in the shelter since: February 2025Hello! My name is Anja. My first memory is the cold asphalt under my paws. No warm nest, no heartbeat beside me. I was so small that I should have been carried – by a mother who showed me how the world works. But I was alone. Completely alone on the street.Perhaps that's why I learned as a puppy how valuable closeness is. When people found me, I immediately sensed: touch means safety. They say I was a little cuddle mouse. I snuggled into every leg, sucked in every stroking hand, as if it could wash away my loneliness. I loved people, dogs too. Everything that promised warmth. But love alone didn't give me a home.I stayed in the shelter.I grew bigger every day, without anyone really noticing. No first walks on a leash, no sofa I could sneak onto. No evenings where we all fell asleep tired together. I grew up between bars, among many others who also waited. My essence hasn't changed. I'm still the same Anja. Soft. Cuddly. Friendly. But my body has grown – and sometimes I'm even surprised by it. I've grown long-legged, they say. A real beauty. In play, I sometimes forget how big I am because my heart is still that of a little puppy just wanting to belong.I've missed so much.I don't know what a home feels like.I don't know what it's like when someone calls my name and means me.I don't know what everyday feels like – that quiet, safe coming-home-again every day.But I dream of it.I dream of a place in Germany where I can finally arrive. Of people who show me that life is more than waiting. That I can walk, explore, learn, make mistakes – and still be loved. I wish for hands that don't just stroke me briefly but stay. I lost my childhood in the shelter. But my heart is still open. And I hope so much that someone will see it and ME! Interested? If you're interested in Anja, please fill out our interest form () or write us an email or a message on Facebook. Anja is ready to travel and can travel to Germany with the next transport. Our dogs travel legally with Traces. Traces refers to the database system that monitors the entire animal transport within the EU. The dogs travel neutered (if old enough), vaccinated, microchipped, and dewormed, and have an EU passport. Additionally, for dogs over 12 months old, a rapid test for the following Mediterranean diseases is conducted before travel arrangements: Lyme disease, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichiosis, Dirofilariasis, and leishmaniasis. The sponsorship for Anja has been taken over by Ralf R., ensuring a full food bowl. Many thanks on behalf of the dogs!

SteckbriefAlter: ca. November 2024 geboren. Geschlecht: weiblich. Kastriert: jaCharakter: sehr freundlich, offen, sehr gut verträglichGröße: ca. 55 cmIm Shelter seit: Februar 2025Hallo! Alles, was Wärme versprach. Keine Abende, an denen man müde gemeinsam einschläft.

About Anja

What life with Anja looks like

Anja is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Seelen für Seelchen e.V. in Alfter.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Anja, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Anja?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Seelen für Seelchen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Anja on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Anja if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Seelen für Seelchen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Anja already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Anja isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Seelen für Seelchen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Anja and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
