Animal shelter Tenerife (Sabine): Update January 20, 2026: 3 new photos added of Anjo in action on the off-lead field. Update January 8, 2026: It has been a while since we could share something new about Anjo, but unfortunately this friendly dog is still waiting for his well-deserved chance. Here is a new photo of one of our last outings. The dogs are walked daily around the animal shelter or are let loose in the large off-lead field, but these trips further away by car are like a school trip for them, almost like a world tour. Anjo especially enjoys the adventures we come across along the way! He is extra curious, attentive and as cheerful and sociable as usual. Every time I look at this lovely guy, I think it's such a shame he hasn't yet found someone to enrich his life... he is such a nice and loyal companion! The photo after Anjo's profile photo is the newly added photo where he is enjoying a walk among the mountains. Also a new video has been added. Update July 5, 2025: 5 new photos added. Update December 23, 2024: 12 new photos and video added. Update October 21, 2024: How happy we were when Alba got the chance for a shelter where she hopefully finally could find some peace! But at the same time, we were quite worried about Anjo. How would he react? They had always been together and were really fond of each other. In which group would we be best placing him? Where would he be happier? Well, it wasn't far to look because this easygoing guy once again quickly adapted. We decided to place him temporarily with our crazy Wanda. Her high energy is not always appreciated by everyone, but Anjo knew exactly how and when, and from the very first moment they were best friends. What a lovely duo, running happily, playing together or lying in the sunshine. We also received the results of his biopsy, even more good news! Hopefully, Anjo will now finally get that forever golden basket that this guy truly deserves. He would without a doubt be a super fun, cheerful and loving companion for the person who gives him this chance! New video added. Update August 24, 2024: A quick update on our handsome guy Anjo. He had to go to the DA for a routine check-up and during the visit we had one of his nipples removed. This one had an unusual shape, hadn't grown or changed color lately, but just to be safe we had it removed and sent for a biopsy to rule out anything bad. "Better safe than sorry," we say, and he's now even more handsome! We've added a photo of him in his stylish pajamas that we recently received as a donation from the Netherlands via Podencoworld, which is already being used very well. That orange looks really good on him, and he doesn't need that ugly hair cut anymore. Perfect solution, thanks! 2 new photos added. Update August 5, 2024: 1 new photo and video added. Despite his love for people, he can still be startled if someone comes too roughly towards him. Yet, even then, he shows no flight behavior, but rather lowers his head as if expecting a blow. This enthusiastic guy belongs with a special person who he can be loyal to, with whom he can have beautiful adventures and then comfortably lie next to or on the couch. This little dog will never be completely happy in the animal shelter. He clearly knows and appreciates his place with us and tries every day to make it a party, but he clearly longs for his own person. When we pass by his enclosure or go out to his outdoor area, he jumps against the fence and looks after us for a while with a very sad expression while softly whining. This is heartbreaking and hard to walk away from. Anjo simply loves being with people and those bars day in and day out... he has seen that already. In addition, this lively guy also likes adventures and with his own person or family. He must do something with all that love and high cuddle quotient! Asiel Tenerife (Sabine): Update 20 januari 2026: 3 nieuwe foto's toegevoegd van Anjo in actie op het losloopveld. Update 8 januari 2026: Het is inmiddels al weer een poosje geleden dat we iets nieuws over Anjo konden vertellen maar helaas wacht deze allemansvriend nog steeds op zijn welverdiende kans. Hierbij een nieuwe foto van één van onze laatste uitstapjes. Er wordt dagelijks met de honden gewandeld rondom het asiel of ze worden even lekker losgelaten in het grote omheinde looslopveld, maar deze uitjes verder weg, met de auto, zijn net een schoolreisje voor ze, haast een wereldreis. Anjo geniet dan extra van de avonturen die we onderweg tegenkomen! Hij is dan extra nieuwsgierig, oplettend en zo vrolijk en gezellig als gewoon. Elke keer als ik naar dit heerlijke ventje kijk denk ik hoe zonde het toch is dat hij nog niet iemand zijn leven verrijkt... het is zo een gezellig en trouw maatje! De foto na Anjo zijn profielfoto is de nieuw toegevoegde foto waarop hij heerlijk geniet van een wandeling tussen de bergen. Ook is er een nieuwe video toegevoegd. Update 21 oktober 2024: Wat waren we blij toen Alba de kans kreeg voor een opvang waar ze hopelijk eindelijk tot rust zou kunnen komen! Maar tegelijkertijd maakten we ons best flink zorgen om Anjo. Hoe zou hij reageren? Ze hadden altijd samengezeten en waren echt dol op elkaar. In welke groep zouden we hem het best kunnen plaatsen? Waar zou hij gelukkiger zijn? Nou, het was niet ver zoeken want dit makkelijk ventje paste zich weer eens meteen aan. We besloten hem even bij onze gekke Wanda te plaatsten. Haar hoge energie wordt niet altijd door iedereen gewaardeerd maar Anjo wist precies "hoe en tot wanneer" en ze waren vanaf het eerste moment al dikke maatjes. Heerlijk rennen, samen spelen of in het zonnetje liggen, wat een heerlijk duo. Ook kregen we de resultaten terug van zijn biopsie, nog meer goed nieuws! Hopelijk wordt Anjo zijn volgende verhuizing nu dan toch echt dat forever gouden mandje dat dit ventje echt enorm verdiend. Hij zou zonder twijfel een superleuk, vrolijk en lief maatje zijn voor diegene die hem die kans geeft! Nieuwe video toegevoegd. Update 24 augustus 2024: Even een snelle update van onze knappe jongen Anjo. Hij moest naar de DA voor normale controle en tijdens het bezoek hebben we meteen één van zijn tepeltjes laten verwijderen. Deze had een rare vorm, was niet gegroeid of verkleurd de laatste tijd maar uit zekerheid hebben we hem toch laten verwijderen en opgestuurd voor biopsie om iets kwaadaardigs uit te sluiten. "Better safe than sorry" zeggen we dan en hij is nu nog knapper geworden! We doen er een foto bij van hem met zijn sjieke pijama die we onlangs gedoneerd kregen vanuit Nederland via Podencoworld en die al heel goed benut wordt. Ondanks zijn liefde voor de mens kan hij nog wel schrikken als je te lomp naar zijn richting komt. Toch toont hij zelfs dan geen vluchtgedrag maar hij duikt dan wel met zijn hoofdje naar beneden, alsof hij een klap verwacht. Dit enthousiaste ventje hoort thuis bij een eigen mens die hij trouw mag zijn, met wie hij mooie avonturen mag beleven en dan heerlijk aan zijn zijde, snurkend, op of naast de bank er bij mag komen. Het is een hondje dat in het asiel nooit helemaal blij zal kunnen worden. Hij weet, kent en waardeert zijn plek duidelijk bij ons en probeert er elke dag weer een feest van te maken maar hij hunkert duidelijk naar zijn eigen mens. Als we langs zijn verblijf of uit zijn buitenruimte lopen, springt hij tegen het hek aan en blijft hij een poos ons heel zielig nakijken terwijl hij zachtjes piept. Dit is hartverscheurend en moeilijk om bij weg te lopen. Anjo is gewoon graag onder de mens en die tralies dag in en dag uit... heeft hij wel gezien inmiddels. Daarnaast heeft dit levenslustige ventje ook zin in avonturen en dan wel met een eigen mens of familie. Hij moet toch wat met al die liefde en het hoge knuffel gehalte dat hij heeft! Helaas kunnen wij hem hier niet meer bieden. Tijdens onze wandelingen en weinige één op één momentjes zie je hem echt intens genieten en tot rust komen. Dan is het springerige over, het nerveuze verdwijnt, en dan is alles gewoon goed en fijn. Deze stoere lieverd kan ook al ontzettend netjes aan de korte riem lopen en houd je ook dan goed en heel graag in de gaten. Aan de lange riem heeft hij leuke interesse voor zijn omgeving en wordt elk bosje besnuffeld en eigen gemaakt maar toch blijft hij "zijn" mens ook dan weer goed in de gaten houden. Echt podenco jachtinstinct zien we niet bij hem maar achter salamanders springen is een dagelijkse taak om zich bezig te houden tijdens de langere wandelingen. Anjo leeft hier samen met andere honden zonder enige spanningen met veel gezelligheid. Hij kan het over het algemeen met iedereen goed vinden, hoewel hij wel zijn voorkeuren heeft en precies weet met wie hij wil spelen, rennen, alleen wandelen of gewoon rustig een siësta delen. De teefjes, daar kan en wil hij alles mee en ook met de pups heeft hij eindeloos geduld en speelt hij voorbeeldig. Bij sommige reutjes heeft hij wel zo zijn voorkeur en soms het idee dat hij alles een beetje moet bijsturen en regelen, daarom hebben we in zijn groep geen dominante honden om spanning of onnodig "macho gedrag" te voorkomen. Anjo is dus geen hond die genoeg zou hebben aan een dagelijks rustig blokje om lopen. Mooie uitdagingen, heerlijke buiten avonturen en tussendoor veel knuffelen...dat is zijn ding! We zoeken voor hem dan ook een actief en avontuurlijk gezin dat uiteraard ook bereid is om heel veel liefde te krijgen van dit trouwe maatje voor het leven. Wie kan hem deze welverdiende kans bieden om deel van een eigen familie te zijn en zo te zorgen dat hij zich helemaal "compleet" kan gaan voelen en genieten van het leven?
