Annie

Greyhound Β· Female Β· Adult Β· 4 years

Annie is an ex-racing dog who can now happily put all that behind her and and spend the rest of her life on the sofa. Greyhounds were born to lounge and Annie is no exception, making herself very comfortable in her blankets and duvet. She likes to chase a squeaky toy but hasn't yet mastered picking them up to bring them back. Annie seems to enjoy walking with other Greyhounds but has shown some signs of being unsure around other breeds, and we have tried her with a variety. It's likely that Annie is gong to be happiest as the only dog at home, but with tall friends for leggy walks. She wasn't sure about getting in the car so her adopters will need to find out where she's most comfortable and work on building her confidence when travelling. Annie has already mastered the stairs in a foster home, but needs a little assistance with getting down again! She wasn't a fan of the laminate floor so any non carpeted homes will need plenty of rugs and mats for her. Annie can live with children of high school age but not other pets, although she will walk with quiet dogs. She has never lived in a home before, but has spent a weekend in a foster home where she showed that if let out often enough, she will always toilet outside. She was fine when left for just under an hour by herself so she shows promise for being able to spend time alone without any issue. Annie has some pain in her legs and requires daily pain relief.

About Annie

What life with Annie looks like

Annie is an adult greyhound dog waiting at Dogs Trust Merseyside in Liverpool.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Annie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Annie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Merseyside handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Annie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Annie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Dogs Trust Merseyside will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Annie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Annie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Merseyside early rather than rehoming privately; they know Annie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
