Adopt Anya

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 4 months

Animal friends observed a pregnant female dog hiding in a ruin and informed Ancsa. This found Anya, shy and frightened, who had given life to 11 puppies amidst trash and debris. As Anya would not allow herself to be touched and retreated immediately upon approach, Ancsa first provided her with food and water to win her trust. After a few days, it was finally possible to secure the female dog and bring her together with her puppies to the animal shelter. Anya turned out to be an extremely caring mother and tenderly cared for her offspring. From the beginning, Ancsa handled the puppies, touched them, picked them up, and spoke affectionately to them to get them accustomed to humans. Anya still showed shyness but had enough trust in Ancsa to tolerate it. We met Anya on our November 25 visit and she was still full of fear. She immediately retreated into her hut when we approached the pen. When she was taken out of the pen, she immediately ran to her hiding corner and sought protection under a box. When Anya was on the leash, we could approach her and establish gentle contact. Anya was tense but seemed to sense that we meant her no harm. After a while of gentle petting, she began to chew and lay down beside us. We had the impression that Anya also found the overall situation at the animal shelter challenging. The noise and the many other dogs. During our visit, Anya was already more open towards her trusted people. Update January: Anya has further developed well, now enjoys being let out of the pen and jumps joyfully through the run. She seeks contact with her primary caregiver and plays with her. For Anya, we are looking for very dog-experienced people who communicate clearly and calmly and are skilled in body language work with dogs. Anya needs a structured daily routine, reliable trusted people, and someone who can patiently help her overcome her fears without overwhelming her. An ideal home for her would be stress-free – preferably rural and with a garden where she can relax. Anya is a sensitive female dog with great potential to develop trust and continue positive development with the right people by her side.

About Anya

What life with Anya looks like

Anya is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Fellfreunde e.V. in Solingen.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Anya, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Anya?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fellfreunde e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Anya on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Anya if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fellfreunde e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Anya already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Anya isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fellfreunde e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Anya and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
