Grimbi

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Grimbi, whom we were able to feature in the show “Animals Seeking a Home,” found a home initially, and at first everything seemed to be going well. Now, Grimbi has been returned to the shelter after just over three weeks. The reason given was that he was aggressive towards the existing female dog. It’s a shame that there wasn’t a willingness to work on the problem. Before returning Grimbi to the adopter, it was explained that he is in an age where he is testing boundaries and needs clear rules and leadership. Grimbi had tested the female dog to see where he stood and was trying to claim privileges for himself. Back at the foster home, he showed friendliness and submissiveness towards the other dogs. We hope that Grimbi will now find the right “forever” home on his second try. Grimbi has lived since the end of September on a foster home in the Cologne area. He has settled in well and gets along well with the dogs and cats in the family. Grimbi is house-trained, behaves well in the house, and walks properly on a leash. As the foster mom noted, Grimbi can perceive some tone sequences, but he is trained on visual cues. Grimbi is friendly and open to meeting strangers, and he loves being stroked and cuddled. The young pup already tests boundaries with other dogs. We recommend, in any case, a visit to dog training classes to build a good bond and learn the body language together. Grimbi can be visited at his foster home upon arrangement. Grimbi was found in the city of Gyula at the end of June 2017 with temperatures over 40 degrees, together with a large male dog, searching for a shady spot. He was startled when people suddenly appeared and grabbed him. The little guy couldn’t have known that things would get better. As it turned out in the first few days at the animal shelter, Grimbi is unfortunately deaf. This is no great problem for dogs, as they rely heavily on visual cues and their human’s expressions and moods.

DE·Show original

About Grimbi

What life with Grimbi looks like

Grimbi is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Fellfreunde e.V. in Solingen.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Grimbi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Grimbi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fellfreunde e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Grimbi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Grimbi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fellfreunde e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Grimbi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Grimbi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fellfreunde e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Grimbi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
