Api

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 7 years

Api had a tumultuous life, unfortunately not in a positive sense. Api spent several years in the public shelter in Bistrita. She trembled in fear and lay day in and day out in a broken plastic box. Angela, our project leader, took her in as a foster dog and enabled her to enjoy the expensive care at Gini House. This was the first good stepping stone to help her come out of her fear. At Gini House, Api was about a year old when she became less fearful, until she formed a bond with Anita. In 2024, Api was allowed to move to our place, Angels Paw Pack. This was a wonderful development for Api. There, she enjoys her freedom very much! She no longer goes into the house but wanders around with her dog friends on the grounds and sleeps outside too. If no suitable home can be found for Api, she may stay there forever. But we wish for Api to have people who are confident in handling fearful dogs, who can give her a lot of time and space to build trust. A fearful dog is a time-consuming endeavor and requires not only sensitivity but also dog experience. If you are this person for Api, please feel free to sign up for the wonderful Api.

About Api

What life with Api looks like

Api is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Rano & Huutch in Rano Huutch.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Api, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Api?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Rano & Huutch handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Api on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Api if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Rano & Huutch will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Api already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Api isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Rano & Huutch early rather than rehoming privately; they know Api and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
