adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Apollo has found a home! His story: 12621 Berlin. Our dear Apollo was finally able to travel to Germany in January after spending his entire puppyhood in our private shelter in Fantanele. His siblings were able to leave months ago, but Apollo remained alone without an inquiry. However, we didn't forget him, and now he has finally made it. It is absolutely fascinating how quickly and problem-free Apollo was able to leave his shelter time behind and integrate into his foster family. Apollo has a charming, loving personality, and we are sure that he will be a great companion in all life situations. He loves his people, actively seeks proximity, and is simply sugary sweet. However, like many rescue dogs, he reacts fearfully to men – he retreats at every movement. But with patience and understanding, a man can also earn his trust. The sweet guy is cautious with new things but curious and open enough to give everyone a chance. Out playing, he is playful, energetic, and lively, but at home, he is quiet and balanced. Apollo gets along excellently with the two female dogs in the household, and he doesn't know the meaning of food jealousy. He also gets along well with children and cats. Housebreaking is no longer an issue, and he can be left alone for a certain period. Apollo already runs nicely on a leash, and all environmental stimuli like cars, cyclists, and joggers do not pose a challenge to him. When encountering other dogs, he still reacts excitedly and a bit fearfully, often leading to barking. But this is being worked on, and it will improve. Apollo feels most comfortable when the whole family, including all the animals, is together and in his sight. If individuals stand up, change places, or go to the kitchen, they immediately come under critical observation. A certain part of a guard dog is hard to hide, right? 🙂 Apollo is a lovable rough diamond who responds well to training and enjoys learning. He is intelligent and requires a clear, but exclusively loving consequence. Apollo is approximately 2 years old and has a beautiful medium size at 51 cm. Apollo is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He travels with his EU Companion Animal Passport. Who has fallen in love with the golden treasure? Many thanks, Christine P.! You have given Apollo his name!. This animal can be anxious in unfamiliar situations.

Vielen Dank Christine P.! Du hast Apollo seinen Namen geschenkt!

About Apollo

What life with Apollo looks like

Apollo is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Apollo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Apollo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Apollo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Apollo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Apollo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Apollo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Apollo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
