Archie

Lurcher · Male · Young · 2 years

Archie is a young Lurcher with a cheeky personality, who is looking for new owners with time to dedicate to helping him settle and learn some boundaries at home. Archie is a wonderfully fun, vibrant dog and is very intelligent – this means he picks up training quickly but he is also quick to find his own amusement if he is left to his own devices. One of his favourite things is to help himself to items that are not his, so his owners will need to be one step ahead of him. He does settle with a chew but does need to be given direction and structure to his routine. He loves his walks and sniffing around. Archie is friendly with dogs and with those he knows and who appreciate his scatty play style, he loves a game. However, he can get frustrated when walking if he sees dogs and cannot meet them and this leads to him barking at them. He has done so well picking up the training we've put in place to help him and would like owners who are understanding of this and happy to carry this on. He’d be best living in an area where there are not too many dogs walking past his house, and being walked in areas where his owners can give him plenty of space away from dogs to help his training. Despite this, he can greet dogs nicely when he’s calm and, in order to stop him getting too frustrated, he’d like some calmer dog friends that he can walk with. Archie is playful with toys and has been known to throw them around in the air and then pounce on them. He should be given plenty of his own toys at home, including some hardwearing chews as he does enjoy these. Archie does not like being left alone at home and needs a home with multiple people to be able to support him with this. As he settles, he’ll need to get used to spending very short periods of time alone and this can then be built up. He can be destructive and is agile enough to get up onto worktops and tables so should be left in a safe, secure area that he’s familiar with. This lovely chap is really affectionate and gentle overall and we’re sure that in a home that fully accepts his quirks and needs, he’ll bring lots of smiles. About Archie

What life with Archie looks like

Archie is a large young adult lurcher dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Archie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Archie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Archie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Archie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Archie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Archie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Archie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
