Adopt ARCHIE

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

ARCHIE, born approx. June 2023, approx. 45 cm tall, very friendly, gets along well with other dogs; compatibility with cats would need to be tested. The little ARCHIE was found about 50 km from Craiova in a small village park by our animal rescuer Mihaela—he was around 8 weeks old at the time. His mother was nowhere to be seen. The little guy was bottle-fed and, thank goodness, was healthy and lively. He’s full of energy, eager to learn, and obedient, and we sincerely hope he can finally experience life in his very own family. He already walks fairly well on a leash but still needs more practice. We’re looking for a wonderful family for ARCHIE—ideally one where he’d be the only dog. ARCHIE will travel with TRACES (transport under European veterinary authority supervision), an international pet passport, is microchipped, dewormed, treated against fleas/ticks, vaccinated against parvovirus, distemper, leptospirosis, and rabies, and will receive his own safety harness. All of this, including transport to Germany, is already included in the adoption fee. Due to legal requirements, we only rehome within Germany or to nearby border areas! Prior to travel arrangements, ARCHIE will also be additionally tested for Giardia and screened via a SNAP4 test for four Mediterranean diseases. (Note: as the incubation period for Mediterranean diseases can sometimes last up to one year, the test result has limited diagnostic reliability.) After spending three days in a German foster home, he can finally move into his forever home. We place our dogs very carefully—human and dog must be a good match, as our dogs are not meant to become “trophy pets” passed from home to home.

About ARCHIE

What life with ARCHIE looks like

ARCHIE is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierhilfe Craiova - Hilfe für rumänische Tiere e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting ARCHIE, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about ARCHIE?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Craiova - Hilfe für rumänische Tiere e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw ARCHIE on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt ARCHIE if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Craiova - Hilfe für rumänische Tiere e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is ARCHIE already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if ARCHIE isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Craiova - Hilfe für rumänische Tiere e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know ARCHIE and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
