Adopt Ares

Border Collie · Male · Adult · 7 years

Ares is a wonderful border collie who is just 7 years old. He came to us after being surrendered. Ares is mainly kept outdoors, when he came inside he was in the crate. At night Ares slept in the crate. He lived with a female and it went well. He does not know other pets. Ares is as energetic, loyal and a real cuddler as any border collie. As a puppy he attended dog school for several months. He knows the basic commands sit, lie down, roll over, stay, wait to eat and fetch. Ares is not car sick but does drool when he is in the car. He could be alone at home for 4-5 hours, he was always accompanied by the other dog. Ares is housebroken. He does not try to escape from the garden if it is properly secured. Ares no longer chews anything. Now Ares is looking for his golden bed. He can be tested with an own stable female dog. Ares will not be placed with children. He is looking for people who have knowledge of the breed and preferably as energetic as Ares himself. Who can give our boy his well-deserved golden bed? Medical: Ares is known to have a mild heart murmur. He currently has no problems with it and does not receive medication for it. However, this should be followed up in the future.

Ares is zindelijk in huis.

About Ares

What life with Ares looks like

Ares is a adult border collie dog waiting at Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus in Aalst.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ares, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ares?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ares on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ares if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ares already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ares isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ares and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
