Adopt ARES

Mixed Breed · Male

Don't be fooled by his appearance! Rescued from a Roma settlement along with the female dog Asrom, he came to us in bad condition, covered in old and new paint marks. What this poor creature has been through we can only guess, but fortunately ARES has left his bad past behind and at the animal shelter he has shown himself to be a good and friendly dog. What would make his happiness perfect now would be a home filled with love and lots of cuddles. ARES has managed to keep his friendly nature despite everything and is happy with attention and cuddles. In the shelter he shared his home with a cat, so he might get along with the female company. However, cats should not live in his new home! He was born in 2015 and is about 55cm tall. Despite his breed and past, we hope that the right people will find him, replacing beatings with cuddles, and we hope he will finally experience the sunny side of a dog's life - one filled with love and security. Microchip number: 191035000050977.

About ARES

What life with ARES looks like

ARES is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Udruga Spas Varaždin in Varaždin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇷Adopting from Croatia

Croatian shelters include sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID in the adoption process. Several work with Italian and German rescue networks for placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting ARES, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about ARES?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Udruga Spas Varaždin handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw ARES on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt ARES if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Udruga Spas Varaždin will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is ARES already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if ARES isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Udruga Spas Varaždin early rather than rehoming privately; they know ARES and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
