Ares

Male · Adult · 4 years

When a young, handsome dog arrives at the shelter, it always attracts a lot of attention. The phone rings, people ask questions, they want that young dog who still has plenty of room to grow and develop. But as time passes—six months, a year, two years—the interest fades, and the dog slips into the abyss of shelter kennels. That’s exactly what happened to Ares... He came to us as an untrained youngster. He was a great dog, but not for everyone. He needed a firm hand and the support of someone with experience handling strong breeds—someone who wouldn’t be intimidated by a 30-kilogram dog charging into them like a bowling ball. Ares knows very well that he’s strong and loves testing his limits, seeing just how far he can push himself and others. However, when he meets a calm and confident handler, he reveals his true, wonderful side—a lively dog eager for human contact, one who follows the cues he receives. He’s a dog who loves exploring, especially when he can use a long leash. He responds to his name; called out, he happily comes running over—and of course, ends up bumping right into us in the process. He’d make a wonderful companion for hiking trips. He adores baths and all kinds of water activities; you could probably imagine him spending entire vacations by the river. He’s happy to fetch toys and play tug-of-war with his human, and he has no problem giving them back. He’s also quite the cuddle bug, often sitting on volunteers’ laps, inviting them to scratch his belly. Still, not everyone is ready to handle that much affection ;) Unfortunately, Ares completely dislikes other animals, so in his future home he’ll have to be an only pet. And in urban environments, he’ll need to go for walks on a leash—he’s been trained to do so. Despite his dislike for dogs, he does very well on city walks and isn’t a reactive dog. He’s traveled with us by car to the park, to the swimming pool, and even to appointments at the outdoor clinic. He may not be the most model passenger, but we’ve gotten everywhere safely ;) Currently, he’s about four years old and has been waiting for his chance for over two years now. We don’t recommend him for homes with children. If you’d like to meet Ares, call: Anita 511283185 Ewelina 609802477

Nie polecamy go do domu z dziećmi. Jeśli chcesz poznać Aresa zadzwoń: Anita 511283185 Ewelina 609802477

About Ares

What life with Ares looks like

Ares is a large adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Animal aggressive - must be only pet in household

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ares, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ares?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ares on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ares if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ares already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ares isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ares and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
