adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! While other dogs come and go, Arnie still sits in the Public Shelter of Baia Mare. Day by day. Week by week. Month by month. Much has not changed for him in this time. And yet, we hope every day that the right people will finally notice him. We do not know where Arnie originally came from or what he has already experienced in his life. His story began for us at the Public Shelter of Baia Mare, after he was picked up on the streets by dog catchers. Since then, he has been waiting there for his chance. The approximately 4-year-old male dog, standing about 70 cm at the shoulder, is an impressive sight. His black fur, the white patch, the little beard, and his expressive light brown eyes give him something special. Arnie looks like a proud, large dog—and at the same time like a soul that hides behind its insecurity. Toward people, Arnie currently shows a great deal of caution and reticence. Touches are still difficult for him, and trust does not come easily. He avoids contact and cannot be convinced by treats. Instead, he prefers to observe from a safe distance and tries to cope with the challenging situation. Throughout this, Arnie shows no aggression. He is not a dog who goes forward or seeks conflicts. Rather, he appears to be a dog who never learned that people can mean safety and security. Since Arnie is housed alone in his kennel, we currently cannot make a reliable statement about how he behaves with other dogs. Due to his appearance, we cannot rule out that Arnie has parts of a guardian dog and/or herding dog in him. Such dogs often bring traits like independence, alertness, sensitivity, and a close bond to their trusted people. At the same time, they require people who can give them orientation with calmness, clarity, and reliability. For Arnie, we are therefore looking for a quiet, rural home with experienced people who are familiar with the traits of guardian and herding dogs or are willing to deal intensively with insecure dogs. What is most important here is that Arnie has no life in a home. Everyday things like living rooms, household noises, visitors, stairs, car rides, dishes, leash or walks outside of shelter life will be completely new to him. His future people should not expect that he will immediately function or gain trust. Arnie needs people who are ready to pick him up where he is at. People who can also deal with setbacks and understand that development in a dog like him does not proceed in a straight line. Small steps are sometimes followed by phases where everything seems to become more difficult again. At those times, Arnie needs people who continue to give him security and show him that he can rely on them. Positive dog training classes or the guidance by experienced trainers can be a valuable support. However, more important are patience, understanding, and the willingness to give Arnie the time he needs. Our greatest wish is that Arnie can finally experience what it feels like to be accepted. Not waking up behind bars every day. Not being overlooked. But finally finding a home where he can simply be a dog. If you have the heart, the experience, and the patience to give a special dog like Arnie a chance, we are very looking forward to your message. We would also be delighted to have an experienced foster home for Arnie. Arnie travels neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and treated for fleas. We thank Claudia and Jörg B.! You have given Arnie his name and thus a personal identity. Many thanks to Carolin V.! You support Arnie with a monthly sponsorship! As of: 09.06.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen!

About Arnie

What life with Arnie looks like

Arnie is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Arnie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Arnie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Arnie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Arnie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Arnie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Arnie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Arnie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
