Arnie

Male Β· Senior Β· 10 years

10-year-old Arnie has joined us through no fault of his own and this chunky boy has been a hit. He has landed on his feet in a foster home and is a very relaxed chap. Arnie is very good on his lead but he'd be advised to stay on it anywhere where there might be wildlife - he has gone missing before now in his pursuit of a squirrel! He loves to make human friends but can be vocal towards other dogs if they get too close to him. If he is initially distracted, he will walk alongside smaller dogs. Arnie will be much more comfortable as the only dog at home particularly as we know he has shielded toys from other dogs before. Arnie can live with older primary aged children but needs to be the only pet, although he can walk with other dogs. He is house trained and has been good when left by himself for a few hours. Arnie is currently on pain relief for his hips as he is a mature gentlemen.

About Arnie

What life with Arnie looks like

Arnie is a senior dog waiting at Dogs Trust Merseyside in Liverpool.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Arnie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Arnie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Merseyside handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Arnie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Arnie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Dogs Trust Merseyside will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Arnie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Arnie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Merseyside early rather than rehoming privately; they know Arnie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
