Arny

Unknown · Adult · 7 years

Arny returned to us after 9 months from his adoption. We were all quite surprised, especially the owner who had taken him in; they had been getting along very well during that time, going on long walks and runs together, and spending a trouble-free 9 months until he tripped and fell while walking. That's when Arny attacked him viciously (biting him multiple times). While fear could explain this at the time, the outburst against his owner continued even after several weeks in their home without any trigger... Moving back to the beginning of Arny's life, we know he was taken by a hunter but apparently only cared for him during the first year. He was then locked up in a driveway near the house for about 5 years with no walks; what exactly happened there is unknown. We mention this for the potential adopter's information. We don't know much, but these are crucial details. It's clear Arny needs an experienced owner, and it would probably be best to always use a muzzle when he goes outside his territory. Even during adoption, we recommend using a muzzle as much as possible; we don't know what triggers his outburst. Otherwise, he is a spirited dog, cheerful, but more complicated than meets the eye. Ideally, someone with experience in hunting dogs should take him...

CS·Show original

About Arny

What life with Arny looks like

Arny is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Útulek Zlín-Vršava in Zlín-Zlín 12.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇿Adopting from Czech Republic

Czech shelters (útulky) include sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID. The adopter signs a written contract (smlouva) — the shelter may follow up to verify wellbeing.

Frequently asked

Adopting Arny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Arny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Útulek Zlín-Vršava handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Arny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Arny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Útulek Zlín-Vršava will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Arny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Arny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Útulek Zlín-Vršava early rather than rehoming privately; they know Arny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (CS). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
