Adopt Lilo

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 8 years

Born on 01.04.2018 shoulder height ca. 30 cm compatibility with others with other dogs: -rather no but with patience and training possible compatibility with others with cats: No To all bipeds, whether young or old, she is very friendly, also to small children. In 2023, she had a benign hormone-induced vulvar tumor, the surgery went very well for her, and the healing process proceeded without any problems. Since the benign tumor was hormone-dependent and can reoccur in unneutered dogs, a complete sterilization was performed at the same time. All veterinary examinations were conducted, and her vaccination status is also current. She is now in the best health. For safety, she has a pet insurance (monthly costs 75€) that could be transferred with a change of owner if desired. She does not tolerate all types of food. Currently, she is on Royal Canin Vet Gastro, which she came to from animal welfare in the Netherlands in 2022 to a foster family, from whom I adopted her. I cannot say much about her past, but the vet suspects she was primarily used for breeding and then no longer needed. She had no experience with a sofa, now her favorite place (but she only goes on it if she gets a "okay"). Car rides are very stressful for her, but short trips are already possible. Toys were also foreign to her. In the meantime, despite her age, she plays a lot and it makes her very happy. She loves going for walks but she doesn't like the rain at all. At the beginning, she should not be left alone for too long. She suffers from separation anxiety and cries. Later, up to 5 hours are no problem. At home, the only thing she chews or nibbles is her chew toy. She is generally more of a quiet female dog. Sleeping, eating, going for walks, and lots of cuddles and happiness make her very content.

About Lilo

What life with Lilo looks like

Lilo is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at ASPCA Friesoythe and surroundings in Saterland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lilo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lilo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ASPCA Friesoythe and surroundings handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lilo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lilo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ASPCA Friesoythe and surroundings will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lilo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lilo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ASPCA Friesoythe and surroundings early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lilo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
