Artemis

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 3 months

female dog ARTEMIS (Irma), born ca. 05/2024, shoulder height ca. 48 cm, ca. 15 Kilo Gewicht, dog bed ab sofort deutschlandweit gesucht Artemis was born around the beginning of September 2024, is ca. 48 cm tall and weighs around 15 kg. Optically, she resembles a Collie and/or Terrier mix. Walking through the animal shelter, she catches your eye, bouncing around in the yard and longing for attention and closeness. The lick her hand and the daily hope: Are you now the one who will take me out of here? In the yard, Artemis is happy to be very close – petting – playing – being there. It seems she enjoys it very much. Her story is moving: As a small puppy – around 3 months old – she was found severely injured in a village with bite wounds all over her body. She had to fight to survive… and she did. First in an animal clinic, then briefly at a foster home, but since then, she has been waiting in the animal shelter for her own family to find her. Artemis is people-oriented, loving, and generally well-tempered with other dogs, but can also be a bit assertive – especially when it comes to food, which she defends. On the leash, she already runs quite well (and that, despite the fact that she surely has little to no experience with it). She is an active female dog who, with her people, wants to explore the big wide world little by little and be part of a family. Despite her history and life behind bars, Artemis is a sweet and open-hearted soul that simply wants to be loved ❤️ Who will finally give this little fighter her happy ending? 🐶✨ We do not place in very urban living situations or with families with small children. Please only submit an adoption request if the adoption can be taken on at the time mentioned in the text and you have already discussed the intake of a new family member with your family (and any other involved persons like employers, landlords, or temporary caregivers). The descriptions are based on the behavior in this familiar environment. Especially puppies and young dogs are still in the development of their character. For a successful adjustment to a new home, they need time, patience, and loving guidance to get used to the new environment and to grow into secure dogs. Gets along with other dogs.

About Artemis

What life with Artemis looks like

Artemis is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Artemis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Artemis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Artemis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Artemis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Artemis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Artemis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Artemis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
