Adopt Ash

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

During our project tour in late October 2025, we got to know this Pointer at Canile Arzachena: Ash. He had only arrived at the Canile four days earlier. The Vigili had picked him up when they found him wandering around in the Campagna without a owner. It was quite obvious that he had been abandoned, just like many dogs during the hunting season when they are no longer useful to their owners or too old. Ash, as the dog was named, had not had much of a good life either. He was rather shy but still enjoyed the affection and attention we gave him. Some open wounds still showed that he had either been injured during the hunt or while searching for a safe place. Ash is now well cared for, and we hope that his wounds will heal soon. Ash is, as the vet estimated, also already a senior. And so, we wish that the loving, friendly Ash will soon have the chance to leave the Canile behind and find a family in Germany that will give him a dream home and let him participate in all family activities. Would you like to take Ash into your family and give him a few more happy years with lots of love? If you are currently looking for a new furry family member and are aware that adoption means not only a lot of joy but also work and great responsibility, then we look forward to your message.

About Ash

What life with Ash looks like

Ash is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ash, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ash?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ash on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ash if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ash already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ash isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ash and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
