Vanni

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

The summer months were no time of rest for LIDA. On the contrary: hardly a day went by without abandoned dogs and cats being found and brought to the shelter. As a result, the enclosures are still overcrowded—so are the quarantine areas. And everywhere you look, there are rows of cages filled with new arrivals who can’t yet find space in the other areas. But what are the staff members supposed to do? Turn away people who bring in animals, denying them help? No one could bring themselves to do that—and so improvisation is required on every corner and in every nook. Now autumn has already arrived, and there’s still no sign of relief. Near Olbia, these four puppies were abandoned on private property. The owner of the property found the little ones and brought them to LIDA’s shelter. It was their good fortune that they’d been discovered on such a spacious plot of land. How can people be so heartless and treat helpless young animals so barbarically? We’ll never understand it—and we’ll never accept it either. (Though those people who do such things probably don’t care at all...) The four puppies—all girls—were hungry and thirsty, and once they arrived at the shelter, they received loving care. Vania, Vanni, Violetta, and Virginia, as they were named, now have a chance at a good life—if only we can find kind-hearted people willing to give them a dream home with close family ties. So where are the wonderful people who’d like to welcome Vania, Vanni, Violetta, and Virginia into their families?January 27, 2024: Vanni was allowed to travel to his foster home in Germany.July 16, 2026: Our Vanni, who now goes by the name Milo, was able to move into his forever home in February 2024. Unfortunately, circumstances in life sometimes change, and so Milo now has to start looking again for his final forever family. Over time, it became clear that Milo wasn’t getting the attention, stimulation, and enrichment he deserved. Together with his family, we’ve therefore decided that a new home would be the best solution for him.Milo is a calm, curious, and sensitive dog. At first, he approaches strangers and new situations with a healthy dose of caution and needs some time to build trust. But once he’s won over his people, he becomes incredibly cuddly, loves long, affectionate petting sessions, and enjoys relaxing comfortably near them. With other dogs, Milo is generally friendly and interested. He usually pays little attention to small dogs, preferring instead to bond with dogs his own size. He especially loves dashing and running around meadows together with his canine companions; playing wild ball games or rough-and-tumble play isn’t really his thing. As is typical for a young dog, he occasionally tests boundaries with certain male dogs. For Milo, we’re looking for people who have plenty of time, enjoy keeping him physically and mentally stimulated, and can provide the security that a sensitive dog needs. A quiet home with loving, consistent leadership would be ideal. Milo isn’t a dog who needs nonstop action around the clock; rather, he’s looking for people who’ll integrate him into their daily routine and give him the attention he longs for.If you’re currently searching for a new furry family member and you’re aware that adoption not only brings great joy but also requires work and great responsibility, then we’d love to hear from you!We arrange adoptions nationwide.Your contact person for this...

About Vanni

What life with Vanni looks like

Vanni is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Vanni, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Vanni?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Vanni on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Vanni if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Vanni already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Vanni isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Vanni and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
