Asko

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Asko, a male dog, has been at the shelter since June 2026. He is estimated to have been born in February 2025 and stands about 40-59 cm tall, weighing around 25-29 kg. Meet Asko directly in the video! Who shows Asko that trust pays off? Asko was barely noticed at the Romanian killing station. He kept to himself, observed his surroundings carefully, and appeared calm and friendly. We explain how dogs get there and more in our animal welfare FAQ. At the shelter, Asko is a gentle and cautious male. When entering the kennel, he approaches people curiously, sniffs them interestedly, and gently licks their hand. However, if you want to pet him directly, he still steps back. Nevertheless, he repeatedly seeks contact on his own initiative. This shows that his curiosity is greater than his uncertainty. During our visit, he showed himself calm and tolerant towards us without actively seeking interaction. This furry face is new at the shelter. Our caregivers take their time to get to know each dog and assess them. When we learn more about this furry face's character, we will update this profile. Of course, you can still fill out a self-disclosure for this dog. We wish Asko a quiet home with patient people who give him the time to build trust at his own pace. With empathy and understanding, the cautious male will certainly become a loyal companion. We are looking for people who know that animal shelter dogs bring a certain history with them. We can never predict how a dog will react to life in Germany at the shelter. That's why we look for people who have patience, perseverance, and goodwill. But one thing is sure: Whoever adopts instead of buys not only gives an animal a second chance but also actively decides against animal suffering - and for a life with a very special companion by their side. Are you already in love? Send us your self-disclosure! Adoption If you are thinking about adoption, first read through the placement process. All dogs are vaccinated, chipped, dewormed, flea-treated, and neutered before departure (except for puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than one year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, feel free to send a message to our placement team.

About Asko

What life with Asko looks like

Asko is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Asko, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Asko?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Asko on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Asko if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Asko already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Asko isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Asko and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
