Assja

Female · Young · 2 years

A homeless cat wants to finally arrive. That would be something. To be fair, I actually have a home. The central register for microchipped pets, TASSO, has politely inquired there. Originally, my home is in Ibbenbüren. At least that's how it's noted in the central register. How I came to Lengerich, no one knows... But let's start at the beginning. I was found in Lengerich. A car touched me a bit. Don't worry, nothing serious. A little bruised, but otherwise I was fine. Maybe a bit grumpy. But let someone run into you with a car, then to the vet, treated with injections, put in a cage and shipped off to the animal shelter the next day. There's better things, I can tell you. The shelter manager then read the chip, called TASSO, and tried to somehow transport me back home. No dice, my trail goes cold in Ibbenbüren. Whether I was given to a new home, got into a car and rode as a stowaway... no one knows. But I wouldn't be me if I didn't wrap it up and deal with the situation. Well, it took a few days for me to get used to it. But then I started purring and cuddling. I really like that. Quiet and relaxed, not so wild, but I like it that way. And that's what I'm looking for now. With lots of pets, cuddly pillows, but also outdoor time when I feel like it. I wouldn't need very small children and dogs, but with older kids I should be fine after an adjustment period. We can try that out during a visit from you at the shelter. I'd be happy. Animal adoptions are currently by appointment only. We ask you to contact us in advance by phone at 05481/4146 or by email if you're interested in one of our animals.

Heimatlose möchte endlich ankommen Tja das wäre was. Ankommen.

About Assja

What life with Assja looks like

Assja is a young adult cat waiting at Tierheim Tecklenburger Land in Lengerich.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Assja, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Assja?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Tecklenburger Land handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Assja on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Assja if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Tecklenburger Land will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Assja already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Assja isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Tecklenburger Land early rather than rehoming privately; they know Assja and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
