Astor

Male · Adult · 7 years

We know that Astor was once someone's, but he probably didn't have a good life before, and no one claimed him. He ended up in the animal shelter after spending several days hanging around a property. Currently, Astor doesn't like being touched around the neck, and he is rather distrustful of complete strangers. Fortunately, Astor is a big food lover, which greatly helps in gaining his trust. Thanks to this, we have no problem taking Astor for walks, which dog loves. He happily marches along, sniffing cheerfully. On walks, he seems positively interested in other dogs, but we don't know yet how he will be in direct contact. For now, Astor isn't a dog "for cuddling." He definitely has had some unpleasant experiences, so he is looking for someone who will respect his boundaries and patiently work on his issues. Astor guards his resources, doesn't like when someone touches his bowl or bed, at least in the small space of the kennel. Perhaps in a home, in a calm atmosphere, this will change, but the future caregiver must be ready to work in this area. Additionally, Astor badly tolerates veterinary procedures. We are looking for a home without children for Astor, and for now also without other animals. I do not recommend Astor as a first dog.

PL·Show original

Danusia 604168799 Magda 609266951 Dorota 534308839

About Astor

What life with Astor looks like

Astor is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Resource guarding behavior, touch sensitivity around neck area, fear of veterinary procedures, requires patient rehabilitation

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Astor, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Astor?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Astor on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Astor if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Astor already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Astor isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Astor and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
