Astrid

Mixed Breed Cat · Unknown · Young · 1 year

Astrid came into our care alongside her kittens after living in a house with over 40 cats. Despite her difficult start, she has shown herself to be a calm and caring mother. Her kittens are currently showing signs of cat flu, and although Astrid is not displaying symptoms, she is likely a carrier. For this reason, it’s important that she, and any other cats in her future home, are kept up to date with annual vaccinations. We don’t have any history of Astrid living with dogs or children, but she has been around other cats and could potentially live with feline companions. As we don’t know whether she has previously had outdoor access, her new owner should be prepared to safely introduce her to the outdoors if she shows an interest. Astrid can be a nervous girl, so she will need a calm home with someone who can give her the time and patience to settle in at her own pace. With understanding and kindness, we believe Astrid will grow in confidence and become a lovely companion. Astrid will be ready for adoption in early June. If you’re looking to give a deserving cat a second chance and can offer a quiet, supportive environment, Astrid could be the perfect addition to your home.

About Astrid

What life with Astrid looks like

Astrid is a young adult mixed breed cat cat waiting at Thornberry Animal Sanctuary in United Kingdom.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Astrid, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Astrid?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Thornberry Animal Sanctuary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Astrid on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Astrid if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Thornberry Animal Sanctuary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Astrid already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Astrid isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Thornberry Animal Sanctuary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Astrid and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
