Athena

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy · 3 months

Athena - A timid fluffy girl is looking for patient and loving people. 🍀 Athena - A timid puppy girl needs a lot of love and security. The beautiful Athena is waiting in the municipal animal shelter for empathetic people to take her in. With her just 3 months (born around 06/2026), the little dog girl is still at the beginning of her life journey. The loud bustle and foreign stimuli in the shelter are currently making the delicate mouse very afraid - Athena urgently needs a quiet home where she can arrive and trust without pressure. Optically, Athena is an absolutely enchanting eye-catcher: With her fluffy, light wiggling fur, the darker shaded ears and the gentle facial features, she reminds of a small, cute polar bear. From her loyal button eyes, she looks a bit uncertain into the world. Her fairly strong paws suggest that she will once become a pretty, medium to large-sized female dog (estimated to grow to about 50-55 cm). Characteristically, Athena is currently very reserved, anxious and cautious towards people. She has probably not experienced much positive so far and must first learn that hands can also stroke lovingly. Behind her shyness is a heartfelt, gentle dog child that will gradually flourish with a lot of patience, security and love. An already existing, confident first dog in the new home would be a huge orientation help for Athena and would give her a lot of security. Athena travels to her new home vaccinated, chipped and with an EU pet passport after a positive preliminary inspection. Shy, anxious towards people, needs a lot of patience ✓ A home with a garden ✓ Experienced dog people ✓ Preferably to another dog ✓ Would like to live rurally - No small children in the household - No urban environment We do not know anything about Athena's background. Help Athena find a home - share this with your friends ❤️

About Athena

What life with Athena looks like

Athena is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Hundsrücker Tierschutz gUG in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Athena, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Athena?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundsrücker Tierschutz gUG handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Athena on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Athena if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundsrücker Tierschutz gUG will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Athena already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Athena isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundsrücker Tierschutz gUG early rather than rehoming privately; they know Athena and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
