Adopt Athena

Mixed Breed · Unknown

The small and seemingly fragile Athena is an adorable and, after an initial reserve, extremely cuddly and affectionate female dog who, just like her buddies Nero, Leo, Daisy, and Karma, is looking for a home. Of course, she still looks a bit ragged, but that's no surprise when you consider what this little mouse has had to endure. Our five survivors, along with many other dogs and cats, lived in cramped conditions in an apartment as a result of an animal hoarding situation under catastrophic conditions. The authorities had to rescue the suffering, severely neglected animals from the apartment and bring them to the state animal shelter ASPA, where they now live among 2,500 dogs, with only a slim chance of being seen. We hope to find homes for these lovely little dogs through this means. Upon arrival at the animal shelter, all the dogs received medical care, thorough examinations, microchips, vaccinations, haircuts, and baths. Athena was allowed to keep a bit of her fur coat, while others were not so lucky. But the fur of all will grow back, and even the last naked frog will turn into a handsome prince or a magical princess. Let's look at the photos: Athena snuggles up to the animal caretaker. In her coat, she looks much better. She is actually quite cute, don't you think? But despite her cuteness... Athena needs to learn and experience everything. She hasn't been allowed to do so before, but she really wants to. However, being so trusting, she will soon get used to the leash and collar and happily trot beside you, exploring the world. The little mouse would certainly be delighted with canine company. A confident only dog could provide her with security, companionship, and a point of contact. If you want to be Athena's person, friend, or family, if you, dear animal lover, want to take Athena to heart, then warm up the couch and get her bowl and leash ready. Then perhaps you can soon start a new, beautiful, shared life with Athena. We wish little Athena all the best, and you, dear reader, too. © 2006-2024 by animal welfare association Europa e.V. © 2006-2024 by Tierschutzverein Europa e.V. - All rights reserved

About Athena

What life with Athena looks like

Athena is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Athena, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Athena?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Athena on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Athena if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Athena already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Athena isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Athena and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
