Atos

Podenco · Male · Adult · 5 years

September 2022, from Fabienne's Diary: In one fell swoop, seven Maneto's joined us. Despite the new law, not much has changed here. The law doesn't count for hunters, they just carry on. We've rescued a few of those poor things again. They're all terrified and have never been loved, never been cuddled, they're silent or have they ever eaten something decent? They've been used their whole lives and are now literally used up. They are seven, each with their own story. Maneto's, Podenco dogs on short legs. Divine to look at, and very nice, funny dogs, but these are no ready-made clowns. At the moment, half are still so scared that we need time to prepare them for the world. The other half is happy and glad to be rescued and will adapt easily. Many people love those funny Podenco dogs with their short legs, but who takes one of them to heart for life? Atos is very suspicious of people, something that grew in the dark cage with his hunter and the bad experiences with this man. There will be a lot of work to be done to make him feel at home, but he's still young and has a beautiful life ahead of him!

About Atos

What life with Atos looks like

Atos is a adult podenco dog waiting at ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) in Spain.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Atos, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Atos?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Atos on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Atos if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Atos already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Atos isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Atos and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
