Aureliu

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

The wonderful Aureliu, born 09/2017 and about 55 cm tall, is one of those dogs who have followed many people for years without ever having met them in person. Anyone who has been following the dogs at the Public Shelter Motru for a long time knows him by his unmistakable long white front legs, which look as though he is always wearing elegant gloves. Aureliu has lived in the shelter since at least spring 2021, fighting for survival there day after day. Now he has finally been allowed to leave that terrible place. After more than five years in the kill shelter, we can hardly believe our luck. Even better news is that the examinations so far show Aureliu is healthy. For a dog who had to spend so many years under these conditions, this is almost a small miracle. Aureliu was never a dog who sought out conflict. His survival strategy was cleverness. Again and again he could be seen standing at the gate, hoping for a little affection or a friendly glance. When other dogs pushed him aside, he withdrew without resistance and without fighting. He adapted and held on, year after year. Despite everything, Aureliu has kept his friendly nature. He is a sweet, brave and clever dog who never gave up. Today he is a senior, but he seems lively and full of joy. At last he may hope that the good sides of life can begin for him too. What Aureliu experienced in his life before the shelter, unfortunately, we do not know. So we cannot say with certainty whether he has already lived in a house. Many everyday sounds, fixed routines, or life as a family dog may be new territory for him. After so many years in the shelter, he will need time to settle in and develop trust in his new life. But Aureliu has already shown how adaptable and clever he is. Being left alone will likely also need to be built up carefully and step by step. His future people should give him the time he needs to feel safe and secure. For Aureliu we urgently seek a loving foster home or a forever home with caring people. Perhaps a quiet household, perhaps a small garden, perhaps simply a soft bed and people who love him. This modest dog will probably not need much more than that to be happy. We can very well imagine Aureliu with older people who may already have dog experience and wish for a calm, loyal companion by their side. After so many years in the shelter, he has more than earned a relaxed life. For Aureliu we ideally wish for a ground-floor or barrier-free home with few steps, so that he can reach everything comfortably even in old age. Our charming senior probably no longer needs great adventures. Far more important would be loving people, leisurely walks, a soft bed, and perhaps a sunny spot in the garden or on the terrace where he can enjoy the good sides of life. After more than five lost years, Aureliu should finally experience what it feels like to belong. He has waited so long. Now it is time for life to finally give him some happiness too. Aureliu is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and will be placed with a protection contract after a positive preliminary check. Departure from 13.11.2026. General note on our protégés: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can reassess their behavior and development again and again. These personal impressions help us greatly in conveying as good a picture as possible of each individual dog. Nevertheless, we would like to point out that a dog may show itself differently in a new environment, with new people, new routines, and new impressions. This is completely normal and part of every process of change. Many dogs open up even faster at home and show sides that were not visible at all in the shelter. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but they are not a guarantee of every behavior in a new setting. They are meant to give orientation and show how the dog presents itself in the shelter, and what potential lies within him. We are convinced that with patience, understanding, and a loving environment, every dog can find his way and continue to develop positively.

About Aureliu

What life with Aureliu looks like

Aureliu is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Aureliu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Aureliu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Aureliu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Aureliu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Aureliu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Aureliu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Aureliu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
