Aussie

Mixed Breed Β· Male Β· Adult Β· 8 years

This handsome boy is Aussie, sadly he is looking for a new home through no fault of his own. Unfortunately Aussie's owner is unable to care for him due to health issues. This decision has not come lightly to the owner. Aussie has been in boarding kennels before his owner made the decision, he has shown himself to be a very good boy. Aussie is a Sighthound cross from Romania and has been in this country since late 2017/ early 2018 and he was only a pup when he came over (judging by his passport). He is 8 years old now and is used to home comforts. Aussie is halti trained and was used to regular walks with a dog walker, (now exercised daily on our paddock). His previous owner has said he is a very good boy in the house and absolutely adores affection. Aussie was used to a quiet home, with a solo owner but due to his outgoing personality, he could potentially live with a family who have teenage children. Aussie is said not to mind other dogs, providing they do not get in his face / or overly interested in him. It would be so lovely to find Aussie another home, sooner rather than later.

About Aussie

What life with Aussie looks like

Aussie is an adult mixed breed dog waiting at Mutts in Distress in Little Hallingbury.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Aussie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Aussie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Mutts in Distress handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Aussie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Aussie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Mutts in Distress will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Aussie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Aussie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Mutts in Distress early rather than rehoming privately; they know Aussie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
