Darwin

Mixed Breed Β· Male Β· Senior Β· 9 years

Darwin is a gorgeous Malinois x Sighthound. Despite Darwin's grey face, he has lovely white teeth, and is 9 years old. In kennels he is a very friendly chap. Darwin will need 6 foot or higher fences and he won't be able to be left in the garden alone. Darwin has not been tested with cats or dogs yet but this can be arranged if needed. He adores everyone he meets. Please don't be put off by his gorgeous frosted face, dogs who are darker around the muzzle/eyes tend to go grey earlier in life. He still loves to run around the paddock. Another one of his favourite activities is sunbathing, we often see him catching a few ZZZs while he's out on the paddock. It's tiring work being so handsome! Darwin has been an angel at dog school around the other dogs and even said hello to Mutt's dog Merlin. Darwin is a superb boy. Always has a smile on his face and rarely lets anything get him down. During his time with us, Darwin has shown himself to be a lovely chap, super friendly to everyone he meets but it appears he can be food possessive. As long as food is kept away and he is left alone while eating, we are sure he can still be the perfect companion for someone as he learns that nobody is going to take his food away. Everyone who has met Darwin in person will tell you how extremely loving he is. All Darwin is looking for is someone to love him and teach him that he doesn't need to worry that his food is going to be taken away. We won't ever know what his past was but we are guessing that he was starved. He was very skinny when he came in to Mutts, which probably accounts for his possessiveness over food. We do know he can have the most amazing future with the right family. Darwin whilst at the kennels, has proved to have an excellent temperament around other dogs. Darwin will need an experienced dog home, to help him feel safe. He does have some resourcing issues but with management and patience we believe he can still be suited to home life. He will need a child free home. Preferably the only dog in the home but we would potentially consider another home where the owner is very experienced.

About Darwin

What life with Darwin looks like

Darwin is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Mutts in Distress in Little Hallingbury.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Darwin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Darwin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Mutts in Distress handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Darwin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Darwin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Mutts in Distress will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Darwin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Darwin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Mutts in Distress early rather than rehoming privately; they know Darwin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
