Mixed Breed Β· Female Β· Puppy Β· 10 months

PLEASE NOTE AVA IS NOT YET READY FOR REHOMING. WHEN SHE IS WE EXPECT A HIGH VOLUME OF APPLICATIONS. ALL WILL BE CONSIDERED TO ENSURE THE BEST FIT FOR HER. WE DO HAVE LOTS OF OTHER FEMALE LURCHERS WHO ARE ALREADY READY FOR A HOME AND WILL BE MUCH LESS WORK THAN AVA WILL. THEY ARE ALL ASSESSED AND EQUALLY LOVELY AND DESERVE A HOME JUST AS MUCH. Updates of when she will be available will be on our Facebook page first. Please meet Ava who landed with us at Greyhound Gap from the stray pound a few weeks ago. Poor little Ava is only around 10 months old and has already been through so much. Ava was classified as a welfare case and hopes were that if her owner was found there would have been further ramifications. Ava was found straying frightened, emaciated and full of fleas. Since landing here with us at Greyhound Gap she has literally burst out of her shell and we now spend all of our time wondering how to get her back into it. Understandably now she’s found good people she has become exceptionally needy. Her first demonstration of this was climbing like a spider monkey up and out of her kennel. That was quickly followed up by attempting to climb another to get in bed with the dog next door. Ava needs her routine veterinary care and is currently still being fed up and placed through her assessment. Its already very obvious though that she will need a calm, patient home with other dogs and due to her age and insecurities someone around all or most of the time. If she could this girl would place herself right under your skin! UPDATES OF WHEN SHE WILL BECOME AVALIABLE FOR ADOPTION WILL BE ON OUR FACEBOOK PAGE FIRST.

About Ava

What life with Ava looks like

Ava is a puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Greyhound Gap in United Kingdom.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window β€” house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ava, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ava?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Greyhound Gap handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ava on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ava if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Greyhound Gap will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Ava already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ava isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Greyhound Gap early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ava and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
