Adopt AVALON

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 15 years

Birth year: 2011 AVALON was tied up on garden plots with a thick, heavy chain. The dog was supposed to guard the property, where no one was present. He arrived scared, not understanding where and why he had ended up. With small steps, he is discovering that people are not all evil. When someone approaches his kennel hesitantly, he wags his tail, but if someone does not suit him, he will certainly bark at them fiercely. He does not want contact with strangers and can react aggressively, which is certainly caused by fear. He is a very wounded dog who needs a patient and consistent caregiver. He reacts violently to other dogs, also afraid of city traffic and passing cars - as if he had never known them and now reacts with panic at the sight of something unfamiliar. AVALON feels bad in the animal shelter, he resists returning to his kennel after a walk with his whole body. His reluctance to return is so strong that volunteers bought him specially reinforced leashes, because the dog, in panic, tried to pull himself free when he saw that it was time to return to the animal shelter... Any hygiene and veterinary procedures cause him great fear and he is able to defend himself against them with all his strength. For people he trusts, this timid dog is a big cuddle, loving walks and any kind of activity, coming hesitantly for a hug, but still guarding his own boundaries. AVALON is a very delicate and wounded animal, however his aggressive reactions in the moment of feeling threatened make him suitable for a home without children, with experienced caregivers, working according to the behaviorist's instructions.

About AVALON

What life with AVALON looks like

AVALON is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Zielonej Górze in Zielona Góra.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Frequently asked

Adopting AVALON, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about AVALON?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Zielonej Górze handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw AVALON on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt AVALON if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Zielonej Górze will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is AVALON already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if AVALON isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Zielonej Górze early rather than rehoming privately; they know AVALON and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
