Axel

Male · Adult · 5 years

Axel came to us after his first caregiver could no longer take care of him. Like any dog, but this breed and Axel in particular, become very attached to their caregivers. They are incredibly loyal and devoted. Unfortunately, left alone they miss their owners and experience the separation very deeply. Axel is very sensitive and is having a hard time in the animal shelter. He has less and less interest in walks. In the kennel he is completely calm, polite, but also very sad when no one comes. This dog is a mix of bull breeds, but definitely smaller and calmer, and during walks he doesn't pull ahead, but walks at the pace we set. However, when we take him on an outing, he loves activities such as fast walking and exploring new places. With our volunteer, he completed the Hard Dog Race and probably would do it again the next day :-) That's why Axel would be a great companion for active people who want to run or go on long walks. He doesn't mind the company of other dogs, never looks for trouble, and can back down when provoked. Axel behaved calmly at home. There were no major problems. On walks, especially when returning to the kennel, he can bite the leash out of frustration, so he wears a gentle muzzle. You also have to be careful with cyclists on walks. He likes car trips, so after leaving the kennel he runs towards a known car, but unfortunately he is no longer patient in it. Definitely, he doesn't like sitting still, but we take him on trips to help him get used to it. He can live in an apartment and in the city, in a quiet neighborhood. There is no problem with vet visits. Axel is smart, clever and sometimes tries to push his limits, so the caregiver must set clear boundaries. The dog can accept them. We believe that someone will look into his beautiful and yet very sad eyes and want to take care of him forever. Because Axel has already gone through his challenges, we are looking for people with experience with medium or large dogs. Someone who understands that the beginning may be difficult and needs to give the dog time. Axel besides his charm can give you a lot of love and loyalty.

PL·Show original

Gdy jednak zabieramy go na wycieczkę, to uwielbia aktywności w postaci szybkiego marszobiegu i penetrowania nowego miejsca. Axel oprócz swojego wdzięku może Was obdarzyć ogromem miłości i lojalności.

About Axel

What life with Axel looks like

Axel is a large adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires muzzle on walks due to leash biting when frustrated. Can be impatient in cars. Needs clear boundaries and patient owner.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Axel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Axel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Axel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Axel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Axel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Axel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Axel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
