Azra

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 8 years

Our beautiful Alaskan Malamute female is nearly 9 years old, weighs about 47 kg and is waiting for people who understand her breed and approach her with calmness, consistency and heart. She is an incredibly friendly, people-oriented dog who loves children, enjoys going for walks and remains relaxed even in rain or thunderstorms. She also masters driving without any problems. Despite her age, she still enjoys going out and is happy about joint activities. However, she also brings the well-known Malamute character: she is independent, intelligent and quite stubborn. She likes to question decisions and therefore needs confident, dog-experienced people who set clear boundaries and lead her fairly. She is generally compatible with other dogs. In everyday life, she runs problem-free in a dog group, but shows resource guarding, for example at the water or food bowl. She can also be carried away by the mood of other dogs. Good management and a forward-looking approach are important here. She also defends high-quality chew toys against people. She already knows the muzzle and wears it well, although the training should be further expanded. With the right management, this situation can be reliably secured. She does not hunt cats, but we would like a home where encounters are initially well accompanied. Health-wise, she has mild arthritis in the hind legs and calluses on the elbows and hock joints. However, this does not spoil her daily life and she continues to enjoy her walks. We are looking for a quiet home for her with people experienced in dealing with large, independent dogs - ideally with knowledge of Nordic breeds. Who is willing to lead her lovingly and consistently will get a loyal companion with a huge heart and a very special character. If you think this gentle stubbornness fits you, we look forward to your message. ❤️

About Azra

What life with Azra looks like

Azra is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. in Stuttgart.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Azra, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Azra?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Azra on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Azra if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Azra already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Azra isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Azra and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
