Aztek

Male · Adult · 7 years

Aztek came to us frightened and unsure, with a broken dog heart. He had his person, but that person wasn't able to care for him properly and the poor one ended up behind bars for innocence. It has to be said that Aztek doesn't handle the animal shelter well - constant noise, the company of other dogs, also stressed like him, makes the moment of moving from the kennel to the gate very difficult for him. Despite the misfortunes of fate, our friend tries to look optimistically at the future and greets his volunteers with a cheerful bark that can't be confused with any other - something between a dolphin's song and a pig's grunts. Only after leaving far away from the animal shelter can he breathe calmly. When the tension leaves him, he shows how happy and wise a dog he really is. He loves water to such an extent that he is satisfied with any puddle, in which he spreads out as if it were the best pool in a five-star hotel. He quickly accepts new volunteers, contact with humans is very important to him, and in the animal shelter he has learned to trust people again. On walks, he listens to the guide, comes at the call and proudly accepts praise and admiration. He loves sniffing, digging and running through tall grass. He learns new things at a truly German Shepherd pace and takes great pleasure from it. He has a great sense of smell, finding every treat in the grass. Despite the difficult shelter conditions, Aztek has made great progress - with the help of volunteers, he has learned to slow down a bit on walks, he can now think and sniff. His fear of other dogs has significantly decreased and he can beautifully pass other four-legged friends on the shelter trails. Aztek had the opportunity to walk with other dogs, with whom he showed rather excitement and stimulation than aggression. The future caregiver will certainly have to take care of Aztek's socialization with dogs, to allow him to fully benefit from dog interactions. Our charge is more than ready to leave the cold kennel. We are looking for a forever home for him, we dream of understanding and patient people ready for long walks, willing to share a quiet rest on the couch (the Aztec pup's droppings are gladly welcomed) and with ideas for learning new tricks. If you feel that Aztek is the dog for you, don't hesitate, call his volunteers and arrange a walk together. Due to his more demanding character, Aztek will need a greater number of introductory walks than specified in the adoption procedure, as well as a home visit.

PL·Show original

Uwielbia węszyć, kopać i hasać w wysokich trawach. About Aztek

What life with Aztek looks like

Aztek is a large adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires extensive socialization with dogs, shelter anxiety, needs multiple meet-and-greets before adoption

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Aztek, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Aztek?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Aztek on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Aztek if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Aztek already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Aztek isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Aztek and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
