Babette

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 9 years

Babette was rehomed as a second cat on 03.03.2017. ……………………………………………………………………………………………………… My name is Babette. I am female, spayed and born in 2016. I have been waiting for a new home since August 2016. This is what my caregivers say about me: Babette grew up with us, as can be seen from the picture. She was lucky enough to be caught by a animal lover in the area of Grimma, and then taken to the vet by another helper. She did not come alone and arrived covered in ticks and fleas. That is now history, she has recovered well from this bad start. Initially very grumpy and full of fear, she has now become a gentle and affectionate cat. Unfortunately, so far no one wanted the small black and shy bundle, so she patiently stayed with us until she was old enough to be spayed. The advantage is that she has completely lost her fear of people, even though she is rather gentle. With us she grew up in a cat community and would like to go out as a second cat. The existing pet should be balanced and not too impulsive, but she will not let other animals take the butter off her bread. She is braver than with people. We wish for Babette a family, preferably with children, because she is a real snuggler. However, these children should be able to respond to her sensitive nature and not expect her to be the wild playmate, Babette needs appropriate adjustment time. She is suitable as a beginner's pet, can be rehomed in an apartment or as a later outdoor cat. Who wants Babette, who fortunately found so many brave helpers at the beginning of her life, to crown her happiness and offer her a home of her own? The descriptions are impressions and recordings of the animal in our animal shelter and our foster homes. Each animal can develop differently in the new home. This cat is to be kept indoors only.

Babette konnte am 03.03.2017 als Zweitkatze vermittelt werden. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………

About Babette

What life with Babette looks like

Babette is a small adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Babette, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Babette?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Babette on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Babette if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Babette already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Babette isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Babette and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
