Bagel

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

In the animal shelter since: October 2026 Estimated age: born around July 2026 Estimated adult shoulder height: approx. 40 – 59 cm Estimated adult weight: 20 – 35 kg Earliest departure: 14.11. Meet BAGEL directly in the video! (LINK TO VIDEO ON THIS PAGE – SET ANCHOR) Bagel is not yet taken - he is just waiting for you! This furry friend was rescued without a mother or siblings from a kill shelter and taken in by our animal shelter. He fought for his life there all alone and was at the end of his strength. You can find more information about how dogs come to the shelter and answers to general questions in our animal welfare FAQ. Our puppy gang has so far shown the typical playfulness and curiosity of puppies. These little clumsy furballs are exploring their world, some a bit more shy, others already confident. Their characters will continue to develop over the coming weeks and months – at this point only the beginnings can be seen. If you would like more information about this furry friend, feel free to write to our placement team. If nothing applies to this furry friend, please delete the entire container. We suspect that BAGEL has a livestock guardian dog (LGD) in him. Please find out here about the requirements for adopting a livestock guardian dog. LGD mixes are often very independent and need confident leadership. BAGEL has a cropped ear / two cropped ears / a cropped tail. Many dogs in Romania have these cut off to make the animals look more dangerous. BAGEL has a short tail. It is unclear whether his/her tail is cropped or naturally short. BAGEL is currently underweight. On the street or in kill shelters, the animals usually receive too little to no food at all, so they become severely emaciated. In the shelter, however, our furry friend is being given more food again and will hopefully soon return to a normal weight. BAGEL had parvovirus. Fortunately, the little one survived the virus. Our placement team knows the exact health status best. If you have any further questions, feel free to write us a message. MANDATORY for medical findings (please delete): Our placement team knows the exact health status best. If you have any further questions, feel free to write us a message. Puppies should not have to grow up in a shelter. That is why we urgently seek a loving home or an experienced foster home for this little furry friend – a place where it can discover the world, build trust, and simply be a puppy. Anyone adopting a puppy should be aware of how demanding everyday life with a young dog can be: as soon as house-training is accomplished, the "wild adolescence" often begins – full of energy, uncertainties, and new challenges. The first years of life are an exciting journey that human and dog walk together – with highs, lows, and plenty of learning moments. For this furry friend we wish for people with patience, empathy, and perseverance – and with an understanding that shelter dogs often already bring a certain history with them. How exactly they will react to their new life in Germany can never be fully predicted. But one thing is certain: whoever adopts rather than buys not only gives an animal a second chance, but actively decides against animal suffering – and for a life with a very special companion by their side. Already in love? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption: If you are considering adoption, first read through the placement process. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, deflead, and neutered before departure (exceptions are puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any further questions, feel free to write to our placement team.

About Bagel

What life with Bagel looks like

Bagel is a puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bagel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bagel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bagel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bagel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Bagel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bagel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bagel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
